Bad news !
According to the french newspaper Nice-Matin, the Cannes Superyacht Cup open to sailboat measuring 30m and larger has been cancelled at the last moment. From May 28 to 31, up to 25 sailing superyachts were expected to participate...in the first SYC
The Palm Beach Casino, broker Camper & Nicholson and Aston Martin Cannes were among the official sponsors of the race.

The event organization was fantastic from an outsider point of view (I was present in Cannes that week).
Not only the Village, the marketing (superbe website) looked great, but the parties announced (Beach party, and Gala Dinner) were very promising, with Peter Cincotti as guest, and UNICEF as sponsor of the charity at the dinner.
Very impressive also was the display of top sponsors that were convinced to support yachting in these troubled market times (Jaeger-Lecoultre, Aston-Martin, Hackett, Groupe Partouche, etc, etc)
From what I heard on the docks, Palma yacht Club has allegedly put some questionnable pressure on the partner brokers for them not to send yachts to the event, resulting in the absence of most of them and therefore the cancellation of the event.
Not only if this is true is very sad for the industry that this type of behavior even exists when new people are trying to create new events, but I do not think it was very wise from Palma as Cannes organizers seem to be very serious businessmen who would most likely (and should) seek damages, now they had found out.
