According to an unoffical source, Rodriguez Group would have sold several brand new superyachts to a Middle East client.
The mysterious client would have bought several Leopard yachts...only time will tell.

After 33 years of collaboration with the Rodriguez Group, Leopard Yachts (previously Arno shipyard), builder of the Leopard range, have announced their independence from their long marketing partner Rodriguez Group.

In 1986, Gerard Rodriguez, founder of Rodriguez Group, signed an exclusive worldwide agreement to sell the Leoprd range.

According to Synfo.com "Rather than focusing exclusively on production for a sole dealer, Leopard Yachts now intend to handle their own marketing and selling rather than having the Rodriguez Group managing the market for them".

The question is: what will happen with Overmarine, the Italian sipyard that builds the Mangusta range?

Dow Jones Luxury Index

NEW YORK, June 8, 2009 --
Dow Jones Indexes, a leading global index provider, today announced that Rodriguez Group (France, Personal & Household Goods, ROD.FR) will be removed from the Dow Jones Luxury Index.

Rodriguez Group (France, Personal & Household Goods, ROD.FR) will be replaced by Aeffe S.p.A. (Italy, Personal & Household Goods, AEF.MI) in the Dow Jones Luxury Index. Rodriguez Group is being removed due to its filing for safeguard protection in France.

All changes will be effective before the open of trading on Thursday, June 11, 2009.

The Dow Jones Luxury Index measures the market performance of companies worldwide that derive a sizeable portion of revenues from providing "luxury" goods and services. The index contains 30 securities selected by editors of The Wall Street Journal. The editors choose securities reflecting the make-up of the luxury segment and to achieve diversification across countries, sectors and market capitalization. The index is weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization.

Bloomberg reported that James Packer who was Australia’s richest man last year, is trying to sell his 165ft Mangusta 165 he bought in August, according to Sydney Sunday Telegraph...

The Leopard 46m "Pure One" was at anchor in the baie de Cannes today.

Designed by Andrea Bacigalupo "Pure One" is the first hull built by Arno shipyard for Rodriguez Group. She features a blue hull with a very modern interior by Cristiano Gatto Design.
With a triple waterjet propulsion system and 3x2,200 hp MTU diesel engines, she can reach a top speed of 32 knots.

Rodriguez Group reported a 34% drop in sales for 2008

Yesterday, Rodriguez Group reported a 307.7 M euros turnover for 2007-2008, down 34% in comparison with last year.
The company's stock, which has fallen nearly 90% since last year, closed yesterday at euros 4.61 on the CAC 40.

2008 Key figures

New yacht sales: -30.4 % -> 214.7 M euros compared to 308.5 M euros in 2006-2007
Second hand yacht sales: - 57.7 % -> 44.5 ME, compared to 105.5 M euros
Service: -10.2 %

The Mangusta and the Leopard range, built in Italy under Rodriguez Group supervision, are famous between Cannes, Monaco and Saint Tropez and generally ensure high charter revenue to their owners: some Leopard 34m are often chartered between 60-70 days per annum at a euros 90,000 rate per week.
