Christensen: Work on boat yard stopped

According to Knoxvillebiz.com website "a little more than a year after Christensen Yachts began construction of a $20 million Loudon County boat yard to build "super-yachts" on Tellico Lake, work on the facility has come to a stop."

Mr Henry Luken, lead investor in the Christensen project, said "...the market collapsed on the very wealthy people who buy these boats" and added "I had three guys (customers) who lost a half a billion in one week."

Mr Luken also said "I'm spending my own money, none of it is borrowed, so I have to be careful how I use it".

Mr Luken expects work to begin again at the shipyard before the end of the year.

The 2008
163ft Christensen "Casino Royal" that belongs to the yacht builder and owner of Millenium Super Yachts John Staluppi, was launched in August 2008...and is already for sale.

Ferretti Group defaulted on a loan repayment

Published bi IBI News
According to the website "Just days after Italy's Ferretti Group defaulted on a loan repayment with The Royal Bank of Scotland, UK private equity owner Candover and senior Ferretti management have offered to inject €100m (US$130m) into the company in order retain control of the business.

Ferretti defaulted on its debt repayment back in January following a drop in new orders, an increase in cancellations and a slowdown in payments on yachts under construction. Separately the company has informed certain suppliers that it will halt production of some lines for 10 weeks in response to the slowdown.

Private equity house Candover acquired Ferretti in 2006 for €1.7bn"

Fire destroys 53m yacht in Baglietto yard

A fire that broke out at Italian superyacht builder Baglietto's yard in La Spezia on Saturday evening has destroyed a near completed 53m yacht (174ft) motoryacht.

This superyacht was the third built by the Italian shipyard and was worth around €30m.

Here is the official announcement from the shipyard:
"Gruppo Baglietto regrets to announce that on Saturday 31st January, hull number C.10202 - the third vessel in this yard's 53m series - was seriously damaged following a fire on board the yacht while it was in the company's La Spezia shipyard.

The cause of the fire is, as yet, unknown.
Happily, no one sustained any injuries.

Thanks to the yard's own security measures, and the swift intervention of the Fire Brigade, the Port Captain, the Harbour Authorities and the Police, the damage has been contained within a single shed and there was no damage to surrounding buildings or the environment.

No other yacht has been damaged and yacht building activities will continue as normal.

We will bring you more updates as they become available."
